Clean and Sober Softball Association (a.k.a. the C.S.S.A.)
produces clean and sober events for people recovering from
addiction and
codependency. The CSSA is dedicated to the goal of expanding the
opportunity of sober sports to those in recovery, as well as carrying the
message of hope and fun to those still suffering. The CSSA is the he first
known professional organizations to blend sobriety and sports into a seamless
package of 'good clean fun'.
Although not directly affiliated with any one specific 12 step recovery
program, the CSSA operates with respect to the traditions and
principles of the original 12-step recovery programs. The CSSA present a wide variety of activities
that reinforce the sense of community shared by sober people and their personal
support group. The CSSA offers a ready source of friendly fellowship
that can be especially useful for newly sober and/or recently relocated people.
For more than 20 years, Sober Softball has operated independently as
C.S.S.L-eagues North, East, and Central, with no professional staff or
management. Acting as an administrative force the CSSA is taking
an active role in growing the sober sports community state and region wide.
This concept began over Labor Day weekend 2001, where the commissioners
from the three major leagues worked together to pull off the first ever Sober
State tournament. With the success of this event the commissioners
continued to work collectively to bring the leagues together under one
association.
The CSSA Board
of Directors is the governing agency within the
association where policy, rules of play, and administrative functions are
performed. The Board of Directors consists of
six non-voting members;
Executive Director, Vice Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Umpire in Charge, and
Rules and Ethics Director. The
association employs outside it's ranks for bookkeeping service, yet all other
functions are handled internally.
